African Carribean men are three times more likely than white men to get prostate cancer and tend to be diagnosed five years younger.

Run for the Future

Rotary in Bristol took up the challenge and developed and organised the event as a 5km “fun” run, jog or walk for all the family to raise money for the BUI Bristol Prostate Cancer Appeal.
The first Run for the Future which took place on Bristol’s Downs on the 10th September 2006 was inspired by a need to raise men’s awareness about Prostate Cancer.
The sucess of the first year was followed by Run for the Future 2007 which took place on Sunday 16th September 2007. Again, a large number took part, with many families and groups getting involved to remember loved ones and friends who suffered from prostate cancer.
Our third run held on Sunday 7th September 2008 was a great success with over 620 men, women and children participating. We hope the sponsorship money pledged will help us raise over £30,000 for the Bristol Prostate Cancer Care Appeal, taking the total amount raised during the last three years to over £130,000.

Carol called on Bristol women to encourage the men in their live to take part and to raise awareness of the disease.

The fourth run held on Sunday 20th September was extremely popular with nearly 1,000 men, women and children taking part.
