A total of 420 participants gathered on Saturday at the Memorial Stadium for the record attempt at midday. Wearing an assortment of pirate hats, bandanas, eye patches parrots and swords they stood for 15 minutes as per record guidelines. However, they failed to beat the previous record of 1,651, which was set in Portland, America, last September.

March

£14,000 raised for BUI Prostate Cancer Appeal

Jo-Ann Middleton

‘Blue without U ’ held at the Marriott Royal Hotel, College Green on the13 March raised £14,000 for the Bristol Urological Institute. Jo-Ann Middleton organised the Ball in memory of her husband Richard known as Midi, who died of the disease at the age of 51. All the tables were named after words associated with prostate cancer, Terri McDonald Fundraising & Marketing Manager of the BUI who sat on the Prostatitis table said ‘this was an excellent way of promoting awareness of prostate cancer and what all men should know”. There was a lingerie fashion show; clothes were provided by Marks & Spencers. Jo-Ann had made a teddy bear that raised £580 in the auction, Sarah Ross from Sounds Commercial owner the teddy bear is going to raise further funds for the BUI Prostate Cancer Appeal. The teddy bear is now called ‘Daved’ which came about by combining David Gillatt, BUI Medical Director and Edward Rowe Consultant Urological Surgeon first names. ‘Daved’ is now working on our behalf of the BUI getting companies to give donations!

The Ball has been such a huge success 7 tables have already been booked for next year!
