June - Prostate Cancer Golf Marathon

A team of six West Country golfers are planning a 24 hour golf marathon on the longest day of the year to raise money for prostate cancer care and research.

Thorbury Golfers

The players, will tee off at 6.00pm on Father’s Day, 21 June, and play through the night using torches. They expect to play more than six rounds before sinking the final putt 24 hours later and club members are being asked to guess how many pars the players will record between them.

The marathon is the idea of former club captain, Mike Bostic, who’s managed to persuade the club professional, Mike Smedley, and his two assistants, Dave Bristow and Nat Payne, to join him. Completing the line up will be club manager Mark Readman and member Jerry Thomas. Mike Bostic’s son, Ian, will act as spotter for the duration.

September
On 18th September there will be a Charity Golf  Day for teams of four competing in a Bowmaker Competition. Breakfast will be followed by a shotgun start and on completion of the golf there will be a two course meal. Allianz, the major international insurance group with significant interests in the Bristol area, have agreed to be main sponsor for the event which is designed to attract both individual and corporate entries.
